One could say the same thing about Mickey Mouse. Although he remained Disney’s flagship character, he was soon overshadowed in the cartoons by the more colorful Goofy and Donald Duck (who would appear in more Disney cartoons than any other character for the studio) and in the comics by Donald and his nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie (not to mention Uncle Scrooge)!

With luck, Trump may get convicted in his NYC hush money case before the Sept. debates. Of course, his lawyers will file for appeal and DJT will get probation as opposed to jail time. Wonder how he’ll spin being a convicted felon at the Sept. debates, That should play well to independent swing voters, I’m sure. At any rate, they’ll be no audiences at the debates. Meaning Trump’s MAGA faithful won’t be in attendance. Should be interesting. BTW, Gary, the gag order is for the hush money case not the debates in June and Sept. respectively.

I might tune in to the debates just to see how Trump handles himself without his MAGA faithful in the audience (they’ll be no audience at the debates) or with the microphones being shut off when either Trump or Biden start talking too much. Trump might be convicted of the NYC hush money case by the September debates, but his lawyers would no doubt appeal the verdict and DJT will get probation. Wonder how he’ll spin that at the debate.

Like that Trump rally in NJ recently? Where Trump ranted about “Crooked Joe Biden” or praised “The late, great, Hannibal Lecter”? You hear an awful lot from the GOP about how Democrats are destroying the country but not on how to fix our problems. Like how the House leadership deep sixed the bipartisan border bill because Trump didn’t like it?

Cohen, in the 2016 election, lied multiple times on Trump’s behalf. He was ultimately found guilty of lying and sent to jail. Now, he is being asked to tell the truth under oath in his old boss’s hush money trial. Cohen knows full well that he can’t commit perjury on the stand (and I, for one, believe him). In 2016, Cohen thought lying for DJT would benefit him but Cohen ultimately went to jail. Now he is testifying against his former boss, who I wouldn’t even believe if he swore he was lying!

No one under 50 has landlines these days (except maybe in very rural areas) or answer an “unknown caller” on their mobile phone. So polls these days are suspect at best. Even without changing times, most poll responders say what they think others want to hear, or what they think they should say. Democrats have been outpacing expectations based on polling in every election since 2018. Remember when everyone was talking about a massive “red wave” in the 2022 midterms? But that wave turned out to be more of a ripple? Or, more recently, the special election in Alabama’s 10th district. The polls predicted that the Republican candidate (Teddy Powell) would win, instead the Democratic candidate (Marilyn Lands) won by a comfortable margin. This does not mean we get complacent, though. We still need to show up in November.

Only if we let it happen and fail to show up at the polls in November and vote blue no matter who! As for the book banning, in the St Louis School Board elections a few months ago, the Moms For Liberty endorsed candidates were soundly defeated in the School Board elections. There’s more of us than of them, but only if we speak up while we still have the opportunity.

Take heart, Cathy, you ultimately found a partner (in Irving). Age is just a number after all.

There is still time for Trump to be convicted in his NYC hush money case, though the cases in FL and GA will likely get pushed past the election. But a conviction would likely be appealed by Trump’s legal team and his oversized ego will likely keep him in the race (especially if he gets probation or house arrest as opposed to jail time). Independent swing voters (who really do the deciding in general elections) might be loath to vote for a convicted felon though. As for Biden, I would rather vote for him in November than Trump. My hope is that the Democrats can win back the House and gain a few seats in the Senate as well in November as well as keeping the White House. Perhaps then, in 2028, we could vote for someone like MI Gov. Whitmer or CO Gov. Polis for the Presidency.
