   A decade or so ago, our State Fair had “Maple Bacon” ice cream. I gave it a whack. It was maple-flavored ice cream with bits of bacon and candied bacon mixed in. It was actually quite good. But waaayyy too expensive. I much preferred the bacon dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with kosher salt.

   He’s not wrong. They’ve just gone to a minimum of $15/pack in MN. I remember when I paid 25 cents a pack. Yeah, I’m that old.

   Slight correction. 14-year-old Harris Wolobah died 1 Sep 2023 of heart failure. He had an enlarged heart and a congenital heart defect. The conditions were exacerbated by the high capsacin content of the chip. The cause of death was determined 27 Feb 2024, the Death Certificate was issued 5 Mar.

   Paqui discontinued the One Chip Challenge made using the Carolina Reaper and Naga Viper peppers and pulled them from the shelves. They can still be found online. They also make chips using Ghost Peppers.

   Why the various media chose to revisit the story in May 2024 is unknown.
