We don’t just have freedom of religion but also freedom FROM religion. Evangelicals are not as mindless as they appear to be. They really want the entire country to share their beliefs, or at least to act like they do.

They don’t like abortions, and actually birth control.

They want everyone to attend church and believe in Jesus.

They would not just allow public prayer everywhere all the time, but demand that anyone not participating be punished.

They would not allow any evidence of any other religion, or lack thereof to be displayed in public. That kind of thing is frightening to them and they really really hate it.

And, Trump has promised them a christian version of the Taliban in America. This is quite a reach, considering that he doesn’t attend church himself and has shown absolutely no morals according to the dictates of any religion.

It is amazing to see how many of these people who are, in their own minds at least, a moral shining light actually are not ashamed of the fact that they are avidly supporting the least moral person imaginable.

Because the constitution was written by a bunch of white male (many slave holders) who wanted a back door way to pretend “all men are created equal” but still enable men like themselves to override the system and keep out the riff raff. I don’t think it would be necessary to amend the constitution to fix this. Just require the delegates to present the number of votes for each candidate from their state, add them up and get the person who the people actually voted for.

They won’t let me use enough boxes to answer that question.

Republicans have to lie and cheat any way that they can or they will cease to exist. Voter suppression is just one of their methods. In phone surveys, when people are given a choice on issues that affect their daily life, taken from both Republican and Democratic Party publications, those who identify themselves as Democrats agree with the Democrats about 80% of the time. Independents do too, about 58% of the time. The weird thing is that 42% of Republicans agree with the Democratic positions too, unless they are told which is which. Then they fall into line and agree with the Republicans 78% of the time. People who identify as Republicans make up somewhere between 30% and 42% of the voters, depending on the year. It’s currently way down. 78% of 42% is 33%. The Republicans would never win another national election with those odds. So, the Republicans have to keep as many people who they suspect will vote Democratic from voting as possible, and keep the rest of them confused enough to vote against their own best interests.

I have neighbors who put a Trump sign in my yard. When I took it back to their door with instructions to never do that again, their daughter answered the door. She said she was voting for Biden, and her mom and dad were still pretty “with it” about other things, but their church had them totally brainwashed in favor of Trump. Question is: Why is an organization that preaches for one political party and particularly for a candidate who is reliably dishonesty in business dealings and who has the family values of an extremely active tomcat still tax exempt?

Yeah, just like he did with the State of the Union.

I have been keeping garden records for about 40 years. The daffodils I planted on April 17th, 1997 bloomed on May 7th 1998 for the first time. Each year, they have averaged blooming earlier. This year, it was March 23rd. No change in anything except the climate. And the entire rest of the garden is following the same pattern. Those who don’t believe in climate change are either lying because Faux has instructed them not to see it, or they have never planted a seed in their life.

He has been fined for violating the gag order 9 times last time I heard, why isn’t that enough to put him in a cell until he figures out that he isn’t above the law?

My kids understood from day one. They could be homosexual, they could marry someone of any race, gender, religion, or whatever other weird thing they could come up with— possibly even backing the wrong football team ( and this was in Texas!) but bring home a Republican and you’re out of the will.

  10. 1 day ago on Calvin and Hobbes

Yeah, it isn’t even that you believe that they will be back, it’s more a sense that where you felt the safest in the world now doesn’t feel safe anymore.
